Flood
In the event of major disasters in Quebec, the municipalities are the first to intervene. During the spring flood period, the Town of Pincourt monitors water levels daily, by means of a limnimetric rule. The Town of Pincourt monitors government reference sites on a daily basis, in addition to being in contact with the Ministère de la Sécurité publique, if necessary.
If flooding is imminent, the Town of Pincourt deploys its emergency measures plan.
Citizens' responsibility
As a citizen, it is your responsibility to ensure the safety of your family and property.
If you live near the Ottawa River, monitor water levels and flows:

Preventive measures When flooding is imminent, you can minimize the damage by taking various preventive measures.
Here are a few things you can do:
- Apply caulking around your basement windows and at the bottom of ground-floor doors.
- Ensure that all downspouts channel water sufficiently far from your home and that the water flows away from it.
- In your basement, install a sump pump and floor drains equipped with a check (back-flow) valve. Plug your basement drain.
- Remove your important belongings and documents from the basement. Move them to a higher floor.
- Install plastic membranes and sandbags in front of every house entrance and opening (doors, garage, etc.).
- Put all hazardous products and substances, like pesticides and insecticides, safely away to prevent contamination of flooded areas.
- Disconnect eavestroughs if they are connected to the house sewer.
Electricity
- Turn off all basement heating systems and the gas valve outside your home.
- Take special precautions to protect electric, natural gas and propane heaters.
- If you have enough time, contact your electricity or natural gas provider for instructions on how to proceed.
- Do not turn off your power unless the area around your fuse box is completely dry. Whenever you cut the power, keep away from the fuse box and turn your face away from it.
- Do not try to shut off your electricity if there is any water in the area. If any water comes into contact with electrical wiring, there could be serious consequences. Leave your home immediately and do not return until the civil authorities tell you it is safe to do so.
