Emergency services and public safety

  • The department is made up of 1 director and 1 full-time prevention technician.
  • The department counts on 28 officers and firefighters to respond to calls.
  • The department responded to 288 calls of all types in 2009.
  • The calls are simultaneously transmitted via vocal pager to all responders.
  • The territory is equipped with 450 fire hydrants located within 300 metres of all houses.
  • The department’s fleet of vehicles includes 2 pumpers, 1 control centre, 1 - 105 ft. aerial ladder truck and all the modern equipment required to respond to any intervention.
  • The department has, among its members, a team of certified divers as well as a 21-foot Zodiac boat.
  • The average response time per call is 8.5 minutes, taking into account all requirements set by the Ministry regarding the number of firefighters on site according to the Risks Coverage Diagram.
  • The insurance rating for commercial and large surface buildings is Class 4 while that of a single family home is Class 2, according to the Insurance Bureau of Canada.
  • 3 members of the Department have been awarded the Medal of Bravery for saving lives during two separate events.
