CONFERENCE BY ÉRIC RUEL
Pincourt Library
Meet Éric Ruel, producer and filmmaker
Pincourt native
Saturday, September 30th
1pm-2:30pm
Éric Ruel founded La Ruelle Films (formerly known as Les Productions de la Ruelle) with Guylaine Maroist in 2003.
A true enthusiast, he has devoted himself as much́ to vital causes (the nuclear threat in Time Bombs and Gentilly Or Not To Be, and the misogynistic drift of social networks in Je vous salue Salope Salope Bitch) as he has posed́ a fresh look at political phenomena (Les États-Désunis du Canada, God Save Justin Trudeau).
Always seeking to reveal "the story behind the story", he has developed́ a unique expertise in the quest for and treatment of archives, particularly notable in the series J'ai la mémoire qui tourne, in the documentary "thriller" Expo67 Mission Impossible and in Jukebox: an American dream made in Quebec.
In addition to being producer and director of distribution, Éric Ruel is also director and editor on the vast majority of La Ruelle Films' documentaries. He has won a Governor General's Award (Prix Pierre-Berton).
He is the recipient of 5 Gémeaux awards, the VIFFF D'Or Grand Prix du jury at the Vevey International Film Festival in Switzerland, the Gold Ribbon Award for Best Documentary from CAB/ACR Canadian Association of Broadcasters, the Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary at the New-York International Film Festival and a Boomerang Award.
Accompanied by an awareness-raising campaign (#StopLesCyberviolences) overseen by Eric Ruel, La Ruelle Films' latest documentary, Je vous salue salope, has been a phenomenal success here and abroad, ranking 10th on the all-time box-office list for a documentary in Quebec.
